Here, I will show you how I propagated my alien eye echinophyllia. Coral propagation is becoming more known in the industry as well as important to your reefs. There are several techniques out there for each type of genius and I strongly suggest researching first before you start to farm your corals.

I hope this blog will be a helpful tool for future propagation.=)

Step 1

First start with a frag. This piece is finally ready to frag. Here you can see growth forming. Now it is was the size of a golf ball about a year ago.   Still not ready to frag.

This took close to 7-8 months to get to a fraggable piece.

Step 2

Here I am using a bandsaw to cut the echino. I cut around the rim keeping the center intact for future frags. Next, I cut the rim in several pieces. The rim will grow back in a  couple weeks. In a couple months, more frags will be made.=)   And here is the mother colony that is left. I mount the frags on disks/plugs with simple super glue.

Here you can see how I cut the echino

Here is the rim frag glued to a disk

Here is the mother colony which will be
ready for fragging in 3-4 months

Ciao,
Jen=)

        Thanks for the nice comment.=)

I can't give the name of the saw (I have to keep some secrets) but I can send you in the right direction. Try Harbor Frieght and make sure you get a wet/dry saw and make sure the blade has no copper.

        Hope this helps,
        Jen

Jendub- thank you so much for this information. I'm terrified to start propagating on one of your originals that I came across, The Pink Lemonade Echinophyllia. One question I have though is, what type of blade are you using?

      Thank you for your time,
      Kent

The blade I am using is a stainless steel diamond blade. For an entry level cutting tool check out a dermal rotary tool with a diamond cutting wheel. Let me know how it works out for you and if you have any other questions feel free to email me.=)
